This office refurbishment project for Redeemer International Church was born out of a very tight budget, which required inventive thinking for every decision regarding space, furniture and materials. The aim was to transform a linear floor plate facing the street into a warm workplace, able to host both the pastoral team and the many church volunteers throughout the week.
The internal layout was completely redesigned: targeted demolitions, a new continuous floor finish, and careful treatment of openings and transparency to make the most of the long glazed façade. The project sequences a series of spaces along this façade: a large multipurpose area for youth, prayer times and activities, a lounge for leaders’ meetings, a welcoming kitchen, and open or semi‑enclosed offices.
Each zone is conceived to be flexible so that, depending on the time of day or week, the same square metres can accommodate different uses. Mobile furniture, comfortable seating, soft lighting and views to the outside create an atmosphere that is both professional and homely, in line with the community’s mission. From the street, the long glazed façade and the luminous frieze showcase the church’s internal life in the public realm, asserting a welcoming presence at the heart of the neighbourhood.
